Klarman Hall Site Prep Photos

More site prep is underway at the future site of Klarman Hall on East Ave for a construction mobilization in early November. There is a series of concrete manhole access forms on the northeastern corner of the site, and there’s a long section of walkway that has been excavated in front of Goldwin Smith Hall on the southern side, revealing the concrete-encased electric duct (according to the utility & demolition plan, embedded below) running from the southeastern corner clockwise around the building to the front. I’m spotting a couple generators outside the in-ground electric room, which will be re-worked as part of the project as well.
It will be interesting seeing this hillside blasted and dug out for the new retaining wall. Part of the building will literally have offices sited underneath the new sidewalk runs along East Avenue running the length of Goldwin Smith Hall, with lit skylight arrays running north-south that protrude above ground several feet. The excavation will be going quite deep, almost right up to the edge of East Ave.

Hobby Lobby’s Big Entrance Bay

As the work goes on inside the old Kmart to outfit the upcoming 56,444 square foot Hobby Lobby store for a November 11th opening, the large entrance bay is being constructed to prop-up the sign for drivers to see from Route 13. I had wondered last time around what the steel beams were for, and I suppose this is it.

Commons Rebuild Water Service Work Photos

More photos from the Commons this past week- most of the work involved lateral connections from the new water main to adjacent properties on the Commons, as well as new sanitary sewer runs and manhole access precasts. Half of the lateral connections are complete, so additional lateral connection work will commence this week, then I would imagine that the new utility duct tank will go in before the center section is covered-over with pavers before the projected end date of Phase I on the 27th of November.

Gates Hall Updated Entry Photos

More entry assembly work here, and the swooped ceiling panels look completed, providing a nice contrast to the exterior facade. The construction should be finishing up in December so that SCI can move-in January to be ready for the Spring 2014 semester.

Just learned some new info here: the metal shading structures on the exterior facade are done by the A. Zahner Company, a firm out of Kansas City, MO that fabricates custom metalwork for projects all over the world.

Collegetown Terrace Updated Project Photos

Building 6’s ground and second level floor decks are in the process of being poured, and the stair and elevator tower is going up on the east end. Building 5’s ground-level parking section in the east looks just about ready for the second level floor assembly, as the majority of the ground floor has been poured with concrete, and most bearing columns are up. There’s just the start of facade installation on Building 5 towards the north-western face, but the rest is either bare and wrapped sheathing, or exposed framing- the middle section looks structurally framed-out now, and exterior wall studs and plates are being installed on the northern face.

Seneca Way Facade Progress Photos

Seneca Way is looking more and more like Seneca Way as the weeks go by. Facade installation has been going at great pace, and I imagine the interior is shaping up since all the windows have been in since early September. There’s a shot of the sidewalk view from the steep section of Seneca St in the tiled photos below showing little public visibility of the northern facade.

Belle Sherman Cottages Updated Photos

I haven’t been up here since July, but the Craftsman-style house on Lot #2 has been completely finished. Lot #19 has been marked-out (the lot all the way in the back/far north of the site), but there’s no sign of digging for a foundation yet. After enough houses sell, we’ll probably see the townhouses built, but now that the real estate market is calming down for the approaching winter, it may not be until sometime next year. Ithacating’s last update contains some nice shots from late July as well.

State & Mitchell Utility & Prep-work for Traffic Light Poles

The State and Mitchell intersection light pole concrete bases have been set, poured, and anchor plates are in, as well as what looks like the utility service to each future traffic light. Traffic up there has been Stop All Way since the new curbing work began, so I bet there will be a sigh of relief from many commuters once the lights are up.

Breckenridge Place New Curbs & Updated Photos

New granite curbs were installed at Breckenridge, and the street-side has been re-filled with rock and asphalt. Besides that, the window frames missing glass panels have been covered with plywood to keep out the drafts, and the glass pop-out on the south is covered with wrap. The start of metal roof fascia can be seen along the north side of the roof line, which will wrap all the way around the roof, and cover over the EPDM (roof membrane).

Quite Unrelated, but Why Not? Philly’s Terminal F

If you’ve ever flown out of or into the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport headed to or coming from the West coast, odds are, you’re quite familiar with the Philadelphia Airport’s Terminal F. It’s been under construction (and still is) for quite a while, but I wanted to share the new main terminal lobby photos, since it was recently completed (and it’s pretty gosh darn cool). As announced back in August, the terminal will be undergoing a $127 million expansion as well (as part of the half-billion dollar active renovations for the whole airport, which will run a tab over $6.4 billion over the course of 12-15 years). I wasn’t there when all the shops opened-up, but things will be getting “swanky”.
