All the recent rain has added a pond to this site, but now there’s a sign up for LeChase Construction, a large General Contracting firm out of Western and Upstate NY, as well as North Carolina. They acquired Northeastern Construction a couple years back, which significantly added to their prominence in the area (Northeastern built Gateway Commons). Hopefully we’ll get a break from this rain soon; wet weather can really put a damper on construction, especially this early on in a project.

By now it’s hard to tell that this was once GreenTree. All the site debris has been hauled away and we’re left with a nice flat plot as the future site of a trendy-looking Fiat dealership, although from looking around a bit online, I think they will all look the same.
339 Elmira Rd- Sold at Auction

Well, well, we’ve got a change of hands on this parcel- there were three registered bidders, and it sold for $143k. There was a surveyor out there when I was taking pictures. This was a former one-story commercial building that contained a thrift store for the Salvation Army, but they sold it in 2009 for $175k. Not sure what the plans are, but I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough. Site is .59 acres, zoning is SW-2, so the developer could conceivably go as high as 60 feet.

So I assumed this was going to be torn down shortly after taking photos last week, but wow- it’s gone. What’s left is slightly strewn about and packed into a series of 30-yard dumpsters. There’s not much of anything still firmly in the ground from what I could see.

Maguire’s family of dealerships (Ithaca’s very own mega auto dealer) will be adding a Fiat location. What’s a Fiat? They’re small Italian cars. They’re quite a hit in Europe, and were initially thought to be a flop in the US, but sales have now been going strong for these little sub-compacts.
The current building on the 308 Elmira Rd parcel contained the ever-popular Greentree Nursery, which has relocated to 606 Elmira Rd, where Ithaca Beer was before the construction of their new facility (which is a must-see, drink and eat). The current block building will be demolished, along with the greenhouse (which is already gone), and the new project will be rebuilding in roughly the same area, but with a larger footprint.
Fairfield Inn & Suites

So I’ll admit, a new hotel on Route 13 isn’t all that interesting to me, but it’s still worth a post. The Marriott website for this Fairfield Inn & Suites hotel has a render of what the main entrance (southwest-facing) will look like, and it’s opening for business in August. The hotel sits right next door to Manos Diner, a popular fixture for many locals and also college students looking to eat breakfast at 4am. It looks like the facade work will be coming to an end soon.
There was also an accident on this site back in January when two brick-layers fell through an elevator shaft they were working near. I haven’t seen anything further on that.
