307 College Ave as it sits now. It will be nice to see Collegetown Crossing move forward, so hopefully the parking will get sorted out sooner rather than later. A group of Cornell graduate students were tasked with updating the area’s parking study from 2000, and came to the general conclusion that there’s enough parking, but the location and price are inefficient. Mayor Svante Myrick has backed the project, and the revision or elimination of parking minimums.

The swoop looks finished, the sign covers are off, and some landscaping work has filled-in the parking lot area. There’s also a new privacy fence along the north-eastern side.

The chain-link fence is up, the LeChase Construction sign is inconspicuously resting behind the bushes, the modular construction trailer is in place, and various trees have been cut down. I suppose this one will probably begin with some careful excavation work to avoid damage to Goldwin Smith Hall, which was built over 100 years ago. This project will be interesting to watch.

In taking photos of this project, I had overlooked the fact that there are some great views off of Valentine Place, so here are some shots viewing the project from the east on Valentine and more from State. I definitely prefer the aqua tiles to the brighter ones, and you can see the transition between the two as Building 3.4 makes its way behind 901 East State St, the George C. Williams House, which has been impressively renovated and restored by Schickel Construction. George C. Williams was a former President of Ithaca College (at the time, the Ithaca Conservatory of Music), and he was instrumental in leading the institution towards financial stability, and also in securing the land rights on South Hill where the college sits now.

Lot #2’s house has begun siding work, and it looks like Lot #14 just needs a concrete truck and a few days to be all set. Definitely a quick turnaround- see the photos from June 7th, about a month ago: Lot #14’s house had just recently been put in place on the foundation.

This is certainly an interesting building to see. From a distance, it almost looks like a futuristic spaceship landed on the Cornell campus. There’s a lot of work still to be done on the exterior, most notably the entryway, where the stepped concrete wall will rise up into two pillars that touch the bottom of the cantilevered section.

The black waterproof coating has almost made its way around the building now, and bricks are being laid on the eastern and southern walls. It will be nice once the exterior gets wrapped-up on this project. I think it will look good, and blend well with the brick Dewitt Building next door.
Hotel Ithaca Marriott & The Green St Parking Garage

The roughly 400-car Green St. Parking Garage (above Cinemapolis) downtown is eventually slated for a re-build, noted in this brief reconstruction study by Brittingham & Associates for Cooper Carry, the architecture firm for Hotel Ithaca Marriott. I suppose the study was probably asked for by the Planning Board or the City of Ithaca to determine how the proposed tower would affect the City’s eventual plans to build additional stories on this garage. Looks like the plans won’t be affected.
